The Carlisle Parent Teacher Organization is a healthy organization that seeks to include as many different parents and points of view as possible. If you have thought about becoming more involved in the life of your child's school, please consider a role within the PTO! We always have several openings available, both on the Board and within the larger organization.

Our entire apparel sale happens online!  The Coordinator is responsible for selecting  a dozen or so items that would be great for the fall and spring sales.  Working closely with a printer/supplier, sales would be timed to deliver items in time for the holidays and to line up with the School Supply Kit and Gift Card Sales in the Spring.  This volunteer works closely with the Fundraising Chairperson.  Perfect for a creative person who has a bit of a business head.

COMMITMENT

This role is busiest in mid fall and mid spring.  All but deliveries and working with the printer can be done from home.

School Supply Kit DESCRIPTION

Each Spring PTO runs an online only sale of school supplies for the upcoming school year. It is not only a great fundraiser for the PTO raising about $4,000, but also a true service to our parents and teaching staff. We save parents an average of 1-2 hours per child shopping for a list of supplies in the summer at the same providing them still with substantial monetary savings. Our sale helps our teachers since supply kits that are delivered to classrooms are complete, accurate and, every child participating is prepared for the first day of school. The supplies are waiting on children’s desks on their first day of school.

The PTO School Supply Kits Coordinator serves as liaison between teachers, superintendent and the Schoolkitz representative. The process is fairly simple and includes publicity, coordination and distribution of supplies. Schoolkidz will support you along the way with guidance, schedule and marketing materials. ​

COMMITMENT

The School Supply Kit Sale takes place in late winter/early spring, with distribution in late August. It is assumed that the coordinator will attend monthly PTO meetings to report progress and results of the sale. Please contact the current coordinator with any questions at [email protected].

Kindergarten Bus Chaperone Coordinator

Kindergarten Bus ​DESCRIPTION

This volunteer coordinates parent volunteers to ride each bus on the first two or three days of school to assist the incoming kindergarteners. The Coordinator recruits volunteers, and coordinates the volunteers for each bus route for the first 2-3 days of school.

This event takes place in September, so all of the effort is in late August and the first week of the school year.

Library Volunteer Description

The Library Volunteer Coordinator takes responsibility for scheduling sufficient volunteer coverage in the school library -- ideally two volunteers to cover each class shift in grades pre-K through 2 and one or two volunteers for grade 3-5 classes. (Middle school children visit the library on their own time.) ​

Newcomer Program Coordinator

Newcomer Program DESCRIPTION

The Newcomer Program Coordinator establishes contact with families who are new to the Carlisle Public Schools to match them with a current family to act as a resource for the new family. As well as acting as a resource to volunteer contacts. Additionally, this coordinator organizes a school tour for new families in the fall and hosts the Newcomer’s Coffee early in September.  ​

COMMITMENT

This is one of the few PTO roles that requires work throughout the calendar year, not just while school is in session.  The work is sporadic and aside from the coffee and tour, can be done online. It is assumed that the coordinator will attend monthly PTO meetings to report progress and results.

Faculty & Staff Luncheon Coordinator

Luncheon DESCRIPTION

The Teacher Luncheons are sponsored by the PTO each year. The Fall Luncheon is traditionally held on the first early release day of the school year and the Spring Luncheon is traditionally held on the Last early release day of the school year.

Coordinators are responsible for planning all aspects of this event.  Technology and tradition make this event much less labor intensive than it may sound! Since this event happens every year, families know the drill and really pitch in. Sign-Up Genius is an online registration site that takes care of volunteer sign ups once the Co-Chairs set it up. Other responsibilities include publicity to find volunteers to bring delicious dishes, set up, serve and clean-up on the day of the luncheon.

Book Fair DESCRIPTION

The Book Fair Coordinators manage the book fair committee volunteers in the planning all aspects of the Spring book fair to be held at the Carlisle School Library. They will coordinate with the librarian and the book fair vendor in the preparation and delivery of the fair, publicize the event, manage finances and recruit volunteers.  Profits directly benefit the Carlisle School Library. This is a week-long book fair which in years past has run from Monday through Friday in April or Early May. The Book Fair Coordinator (and her/his co-chair) should expect to be at the library during book fair hours.

COMMITMENT

This is a major commitment that requires considerable time during the late winter and spring, with a daily commitment for the week of the fair. It is assumed that the coordinator will attend monthly PTO meetings to report progress and results.

Room Parent Description

The Room Parent coordinator is responsible for the annual selection process of room parents and for the communication of PTO related communications during the school year. S/he will be available via email to receive and send notices to Room Parents as needed and sometimes filter notifications to appropriate parties.

Commitment

It is most helpful if the Room Parent Coordinator assumes attendance at monthly meetings, as well as reasonable time commitment throughout the school year, with the busiest work in late August. Please contact the current  PTO Room Parent Coordinator if you have any questions about this position.

Middle School Class Representatives:

Middle School Rep Description

A Middle School Class Representative serves as a liaison between the parents of one grade, the school administration, and the Carlisle School Association. The Class Rep works with the Class Treasurer and the PTO VP of Middle School to recruit chairs for class-specific activities (i.e. Spaghetti Supper, 7th Grade Play, 8th Grade Graduation). Class Reps provide communication to parents in the grade and sometimes the PTO Board to make class expenditures transparent. ​

Commitment

The time commitment for a Class Rep is relatively small but is most busy at times when the class committee (Class Rep, Class Treasurer and PTO VP of Middle School) are nominating individuals for a class event. This is a one year position. Attendance at monthly PTO meetings is not required but encouraged.

MS Treasurers Discription

Treasurers for these grades oversee the funds raised and spent associated with their class activities. Treasurers work with the PTO Treasurer.  These positions are assumed three year terms from 6h to 8th grade.

Commitment

The timing of the class event dictates the busy time of hear for the treasurer; Spaghetti Supper, 7th Grade Play and Graduation all have their own busy times which the treasurer should plan to be available to accept and deposit payments as well as reimburse parents and guardians for expenses incurred.

The CPS Garden was launched in 2010 as a collaborative initiative involving students, staff, parents and community members. By offering school children hands-on educational opportunities and exposure to the garden, the CPS Garden aims to encourage lifelong, nutritious eating habits, environmental stewardship, and appreciation of food resources and the importance of the complete garden ecosystem. ​​​

The Carlisle Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) is a parent-run organization that serves as a resource and advisor to parents and guardians of children with special needs and learning differences. The SEPAC works in partnership with the administration of the Carlisle Public School (CPS) on matters relating to the education and safety of all students. The group also works to encourage understanding, respect, acceptance, and inclusion of all students at CPS.

The DEICAC are a collective of parents, educators, and community members whose mission is to increase engagement on topics relating to diversity equity and inclusion in the Carlisle Public School (“CPS”) community. We aim to host intersectional equity education and to collaborate with the Carlisle Public School to address bias and inequity by empowering educators and community members to advocate for the needs of all students in our district (and those impacted by our district).

Carlisle Family Connection

​The Carlisle Family Connection (CFC) is a volunteer-run community group that provides resources, activities, and support for families with children five years of age and under. The program offers an annual cycle (September to August) of family events and playgroups. Participation in the CFC is a wonderful way to get to know fellow families in Carlisle with young children!
